Two Sides Imaging

I'm playing with some more facial expressions, trying to capture a moment of ecstacy. I'm not too sure if I really got it. In some ways, she looks like a cross between being strangled and having a seizure.

I confess that I'm really enjoying this Kimiko character.

I'm not just what she got in trouble for, but it looks like she had fun doing it. ;)

Have I mentioned that I love Kimiko? I'm recycling her here along with the tattoos I used on her in Y.A.B.P. #38. I can't quite put a finger on why, but her face seems so much more expressive than most V4 characters.

I'm just continuing to enjoy this Kimiko character, and I thought I'd do another underwater scene with her.

This one is just an idea that's been rattling around my head since a friend showed me a picture of a tattoo similar to this. In that case, it was on a guys arm, and it was text underneath. And yes, these gears are applied as a tattoo in-render, not as postwork painting.

Mostly I'm just playing around with dynamic cloth and hair again. The only thing really new here is that I'm trying my hand at some illustration-style postwork. I didn't go all the way with it, but I did try to give it a hint of the drawn-look.

I actually got to do some bodypainting on Saturday. It wasn't terribly artistic, just putting a band's logo onto a few promoters, but it was still good practice for the summer festival season. Sorry, no pictures. I was in such a rush to get out the door I left my camera at home. :(

...so she told me to do "a study of a fairy". I'm starting to think this isn't what she had in mind. ;)

This is a little tribute to FlyByNight, whose awesome postwork skills I am shamelessly trying to emulate.

Good help is so hard to find, so a maid like Igorette is priceless.

Just a little portrait...

I thought I'd do a guy this time. Also, in keeping with some ethnic variation I've been pursuing recently, he's a fine asian gentleman. Or rather, a slightly pissed off asian gentleman.

Mostly this is an homage to Frank Cho (creator of Liberty Meadows) who would playfully taunt us mortals with such stick-figure-to-goddess tutorials like "How to draw Brandy in the bath..."

I've received a number of comments on this tattoo before (YABP-38 and Explorer), so I thought I'd provide a more straight-on view of it. It's actually just one dragon that I tattooed on twice.

Yet another boring close-up... ;)

I promised a few folks a close-up of the tattoo. Every now and then I think about doing up a tutorial for these, but it's time, time, time. The short version is: Put the tattoo on a pure-white background and mix it onto the skin in the material room with a color-math multiply node.

It's weird how these go sometimes. I spent forever trying to adjust her cleavage and then fell in love with the closer crop that didn't show it at all. (Fear not -- such naughty bits abound elsewhere in my art.)

I've always enjoyed faery art, but I've never made that much of it myself. Here's a fairly sexy faery based on the Kimiko V4 character.

I will likely render this in high resolution to include in my art-show pieces. This is exactly the kind of fantasy babe that wells well there.

I did this piece as part of an art challenge, where I was supposed to make art about a specific person. This is for Bean.

The title/theme comes from Schiller's Ode to Joy:

Freude, schöner Götterfunken
Tochter aus Elysium,
Wir betreten feuertrunken,
Himmlische, dein Heiligtum!

The translation I first saw for this was:

Joy, bright spark of divinity,
Daughter of Elysium,
Fire-inspired we tread,
Thy sanctuary.

However, the word feuertrunken can be more literally translated as "drunk with fire". That phrasing always struck a cord with me -- just the thought of imbibing that most holy fire and becoming drunk with its energy, be it inspiration or illumination.

That's the kind of person Bean is.
